HIRING UNIT:  ILLINOIS EDUCATION RESEARCH COUNCIL

TITLE/RANK:
  Assistant/Associate Director for Research

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  To provide original education policy research that provides evidence to State of Illinois policy makers for education policy development and assessment of progress.  Duties include identification of relevant policy issues, research design, communication with high level state agency personnel and other researchers throughout the state.  Supervise IERC research staff and day-to-day research activities.  The Associate Director for Research would serve on the advisory council for Longitudinal Data System and other statewide committees representing IERC.  S/He would also coordinate with outside consultants for contract research.  The Associate Director is a key staff member in expanding IERC’s role in state education policy.

 TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Non-bargaining, term.  100% appointment.

SALARY RANGE:   $64,000 to $77,700, depending on experience and qualifications, with a good benefits package.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:   The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in Education Policy Analysis, Higher Education, Institutional Research or a related field, and demonstrated proficiency in designing and conducting academically rigorous policy-related education research.  Strong quantitative analytic skills and demonstrated expertise in accessing, manipulating and interpreting large complex student-level data sets required.  Demonstrated ability to present and communicate complex research findings to non-researchers.  Experience working with longitudinal college student data sets and education research on the transition from high school to college, and college transfer and persistence strongly preferred.  Requires proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software, and expertise with SAS or SPSS.  The successful candidate will be well organized, comfortable working under deadlines, have a high attention to detail and accuracy and yet be flexible to changing priorities, and have demonstrated success in completing projects on time.  Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
