HIRING UNIT: KINESIOLOGY AND HEALTH EDUCATION
TITLE/RANK: Assistant Professor of Psychology of Physical Activity and Health
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Potential candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses; develop and maintain an active research agenda; advise students; engage in professional, university, and community service.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Academic, tenure-track, 9-month, 100%, continuing, beginning August 12, 2013.
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State
SALARY RANGE: commensurate with education, training and/or experience.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Candidates must have a doctorate in Kinesiology, Health, Psychology, or related field with an emphasis in the psychology of physical activity as it relates to health. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of, or potential for, successful teaching and scholarly activity. Ability to teach a variety of courses including, but not limited to, psychological and social aspects of sport and exercise, advanced exercise psychology, health psychology, rehabilitation psychology, health promotion, and research methods. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to mentor graduate students pursuing a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Behavior. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and members of the university and local community. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply, but must have completed doctoral degree by August 15, 2013.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: The department is seeking a candidate with centrality to the various programs within the department (Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Behavior, Health Education, and Nutrition). Candidates with the ability or potential to secure internal and external funding are preferred. Preference may be given to applicants with experience and research interests in chronic disease (e.g., obesity, diabetes) and who are able to contribute to our weight management clinic.
