DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES & LITERATURE
TITLE/RANK: Assistant Professor-Spanish
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Teach three courses per semester. Seeking a person who will be an excellent teacher. Continued outside research activity expected. Department and University service obligations and other duties assigned by Chair required. Area of specialization: Spanish pedagogy and teacher training. Area of competence: Curriculum and instruction, language learning theory, and foreign language pedagogy.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Faculty tenure track, Academic beginning Fall 2012, 100%.

SALARY RANGE: commensurate with education, training and/or experience
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A Ph.D. or ABD required with a concentration in curriculum and instruction, second-language acquisition, or closely related field. ABDS very near completion will be considered. However, if Ph.D. is not completed by the beginning of the contract period, a one-year term appointment will be made at the rank of Instructor. The successful candidate will be a strong specialist in the area of language learning theory and foreign language pedagogy. Candidates must demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and have proven experience teaching in the following areas: 1) Spanish and foreign language pedagogy; 2) Foreign language teacher training; and 3) Hispanic linguistics. In addition, proven experience working with NCATE, ACTFL standards, simulated oral proficiency interviews, and supervising student teachers in middle and high school would be welcome.
