HIRING UNIT: COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
                         DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

TITLE/RANK:  Assistant Professor of English: African American Literature

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The Department of English Language and Literature is seeking a specialist in African American literature for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor to enrich their course offerings and to participate in their on-going scholarly and public humanities projects.  The position includes a 3/3 teaching load at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the candidate’s area of specialization, along with survey, general education, and composition courses.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Academic, tenure-track, 100%, continuing, beginning August 16, 2013

SOURCE OF FUNDS: State

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience and credentials.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Specialist in African American literature, any period.  PhD required.  If PhD is not completed by the beginning of the contract period, appointment will be at the rank of Instructor until all degree requirements are fulfilled.

Candidates who advance to the second round will be asked for a writing sample, statement of teaching philosophy, letters of recommendation and transcripts.
