HIRING UNIT:  COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES
                          PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

TITLE/RANK:  Assistant Professor-Condensed Matter

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The candidate is expected to demonstrate a passion for teaching, a capability of teaching at all curriculum levels, and the ability to mentor students in a vibrant program of research.  All faculty members are expected to engage in productive scholarship.  The Department, College, and University all require the participation of undergraduates in its research programs.  The Department of Physics seek a candidate who will develop a CMP program that is attractive to undergraduate students, that could receive external funding, and that produces peer-reviewed publications.  Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement current faculty research.  All faculty members are expected to participate on department committees and assist in significant department-wide projects; for example, the department plans to establish a professional graduate program in the near future.     

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Tenure-track, continuing academic year (nine month) appointment and will be available beginning August 2012.

SALARY RANGE:   Commensurate with credentials, qualifications, and experience

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate.  This may be in Physics or a closely related field.  The doctoral degree must be completed prior to the candidate commencing employment at SIUE.  Experience working in the field.  Experience working in the field (in scholarship or teaching) beyond that associated with the doctoral degree is highly desirable.
