
TITLE/RANK: Assistant or Associate Professor, Science and Health Sciences Librarian
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Science and Health Sciences Librarian works in a collaborative environment and reports to the Director of User Services, who reports to the Dean of Library and Information Services. The person collaborates closely with the other Science and Health Sciences Librarian to support the departments of biological sciences, chemistry, mathematics/statistics, physics, and the schools of dental medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, in performing the following activities: consulting with liaisons of departments or schools with regard to collection development; teaching workshops, information literacy classes, and university courses for science and health sciences; creating teaching modules, bibliographies, and a variety of finding aids; providing reference services: in person, by telephone, and through email; working with the Department of Technical Services in the ordering of monographs, journals, online databases, etc; working closely with the Department of Academic Computing to deliver library services and resources to users via the web and learning management system; performing administrative and supervisory functions, including reviewing policies and hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating personnel; planning and administering budgets, within fiscal constraints, in accordance with university goals and objectives; and writing proposals and administering grants for LIS and university projects.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Fiscal, continuing, tenure-track, beginning September 1, 2010, 12-months, 100%

SALARY RANGE: $43,000 annually or commensurate upon credentials and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited library school; knowledge of library and information systems, including online searching, bibliographic search systems (such as online catalogs, federated search engine and link resolvers), learning management systems, and the Internet; excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment; demonstrated teaching skills; ability to organize, coordinate and direct the activities of other staff and students; demonstrated ability to meet LIS and university standards in librarianship research and professional service in fulfillment of tenure requirements; strong service orientation.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: One year of experience in an academic library and a specialized degree in science, health science discipline or instructional technology.
