HIRING UNIT: OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
TITLE/RANK: Director of General Education
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Director of General Education has administrative responsibility for the effective functioning of the General Education program, including the New Freshman Seminar, to ensure high quality offerings and achievement of purpose. The Director of General Education will work with the BRIDGE and New Freshman Seminar Implementation Committees to finalize implementation details for the "Lincoln Plan". The Director of General Education will work in consultation with the Curriculum Council, the Committee on Assessment and the Director of Assessment to coordinate the assessment of the General Education program. Working with an Advisory Council, the Director of General Education will develop and implement a Bachelor of General Studies degree program. The Director of General Education will also coordinate the review of the Form 90 series for the Office of the Provost. The Director of General Education will report to the Associate Provost for Academic Planning and Program Development.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Academic, 9 months, with a summer contract
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State
SALARY RANGE: Course releases provide a 1:1 teaching load and 2 months summer salary
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Tenured professor or associate professor with a clear understanding of the important issues of General Education. Evidence of effective leadership, strong communication and administrative skills, an understanding of the role of assessment in achieving learning goals and a commitment to working collaboratively are required.
