HIRING UNIT:  RESEARCH AND PROJECTS GENERAL OFFICE

TITLE/RANK:  Associate Dean for Research

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:  The Associate Dean  for Research is a member of the Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Dean’s senior staff and has the overall responsibility, under the direction of the Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Dean, for 1) encouraging and stimulating faculty research and sponsored programs, 2) developing and administering faculty grant, contract, and compliance training programs, 3) developing and administering SIUE’s extramural grant/contract program, 4) administering SIUE’s internal research grant programs, 5) representing the Associate Provost for Research and Graduate Dean at University meetings, 6) serving on the Graduate Council, 7) directing the Education and Research Policies (ERP) Committee, 9) developing and administering the Graduate School’s electronic support systems including internal database management, COS/PIVOT, and Graduate School website development, 9) assisting with research and graduate education policy development, 10) overseeing legal and ethical compliance including administering export control regulations and service on IRB, IBC, IACUC, and FCOI committees, 11) coordinating and administering the University’s technology transfer program, 12) assisting the Graduate Dean with donation and gift solicitation, 13) acting as a liaison and negotiating contracts with federal, state, local, and private funding agencies, 14) managing the ORP Pre-award staff and Coordinator of Compliance, and 15) assisting the Associate Provost for Research as assigned.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Faculty, fiscal, 12 months, continuing, 100%.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:  State

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Candidates must have an earned doctorate degree represented by the University and have significant scholarship or creative accomplishments to warrant appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher and the granting of tenure in a department of the University.  Candidates must have significant experience in writing and administering externally funded research grants.  Candidates should have a record of successful leadership, including an ability to work productively with academic and administrative colleagues and with personnel from external funding agencies.  Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and governance experience at the level of department chair or higher is preferred.  The successful candidate must demonstrate an imaginative and positive approach to encouraging scholarship and must be able to work with faculty from a wide variety of disciplines.
