HIRING UNIT:  HEAD START

TITLE/RANK:  Project Specialist/Home Visitor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Project Specialist/Home Visitor assists children and families in the Home Based option, a comprehensive program to meet their social, intellectual, emotional and physical needs.  Conduct assessments of family needs and resources.  Make referrals to the appropriate components and outside agencies while assisting families in fully using all available community, social, educational and health resources.  Directly teaches parents how to plan activities to develop positive child/parent interaction, using household and program-provided resources.  Initiates and maintains activities that will involve parents in the program as policy makers, employees, volunteers and educators of their children.  Participates in IEP’s and staffing, as needed.  Plans and conducts at least two developmentally appropriate group socializations for children and their family monthly.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Bargaining, regular, 10-month, beginning October 1, 2009 continuing with a possibility of renewal based on availability of funds, 100% appointment.

SALARY RANGE:    $2,207 monthly or commensurate with training/experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Bachelor or Associate degree or equivalent in Education or Home Economics with concentration in Early Childhood Education, Child/Family Development.  Experience working with low income families preferred.  Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.  Good communication and organizational skills.
