HORTICULTURIST-FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Description: The purpose of this position is to perform skilled labor in connection with grounds maintenance or construction. Under general supervision, the Horticulturist maintains and trims gardens and other bed areas to promote their health and appearance. This position spends a substantial portion of their time in the maintenance and care of annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, tropicals, wildflowers and shrubs. The Horticulturist performs work in planting, transplanting, fertilizing, spraying, watering, pruning, and otherwise tending to the cultivation of flowers, bushes, or other shrubbery, and ornamental plants and wildflowers. This position occasionally plants, cultivates, and irrigates trees; may drive pick-ups and other vehicular equipment in performance of assigned duties. The Horticulturist may train lower level employees and from time to time provide guidance to students, grounds workers, or individuals in other grounds classes engaged in routine horticulturist work, and may on occasion perform the duties of a grounds worker when required. This position performs other related duties assigned to include but not limited to: snow removal using appropriate equipment and tools, move furniture and equipment as needed, clean streets and catch basins, and performs as directed the repair and maintenance of secondary roads and parking lots.
Minimum qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field.
2. One year of work experience in a supervisory capacity on landscape construction or maintenance.
Starting salary: $16.96 per hour
