The following is a current Civil Service vacancy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Applicants compete by examination. CLERK(Part-time 53%)-CAMPUS RECREATION DEPARTMENT
Hours: Sunday-Thursday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Description: This individual provides frontline service to customers and office support, in the form of clerical duties assigned to implement and maintain effective office procedures and work flow for the department. She/he provides leadership and a model of exceptional service to the student staff that assist in these duties. This person is responsible for maintaining records in hard copy and electronic form, preparing and/or verifying the validity of documents with which the department is concerned, monitoring department sales, business transactions and maintaining fiscal records, retrieving and compiling information in the form of reports; keyboards material, creates and revises letters and documents, and assists in directing the work assignments of student employees. These functions are normally performed in combination requiring an ability to multitask most of the work day. Duties involve the use of standard office equipment, reprographic and electronic equipment and knowledge in a variety of computer software applications. The Clerk may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department's mission and goals.
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Any one or any combination of the following types of preparation:
(a) Work experience performing clerical/secretarial work, including use of computer systems
(b) College or university coursework in Office Occupations, Business Administration Business Education or closely related fields
(c) Vocational training which provided knowledge of generally accepted clerical procedures comparable to that gained in "b" above
(d) College or university coursework in any curriculum
that totals 1.0 unit according to the following conversion rates:
18 months of "a"
24 semester hours of "b"
12 months of "c"
48 semester hours of "d"
4. Ability to keyboard accurately at a rate of 25 w.p.m.
Starting salary: $11.17 per hour
