SENIOR LIBRARY SPECIALIST–ACCESS SERVICES (LOVEJOY LIBRARY)
Hours: Evening shift: Sunday-Thursday (2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.)
Description: Under the guidance of the Director of Access Services, this position is responsible for all routine Circulation Department activities during evening and night hours of operation, including supervising several student assistants. In the event of building security or emergency situations, this individual is responsible for notifying campus authorities. In cooperation with the Circulation Desk Manager, and under existing policies and procedures, the Sr. Library Specialist participates in Circulation Billing operations, such as the printing/mailing of overdue and billing notices, collecting fines and replacement-cost assessments, and generally assisting the Desk Manager in accounts receivable processing. This position is responsible for the charging and discharging of library materials and equipment during night hours, i.e., books, laptops, clickers, and other Reserves materials. This position creates, modifies and updates the Circulation system records of bibliographic and patron information and makes corrections as necessary. The Sr. Library Specialist interprets and applies department policies and procedures in response to user inquiries and complaints, and in serving difficult library users. This individual is expected to report extenuating circumstances to the Director of Access Services. This position trains night-time student assistants in the use of the circulation system and related policies and procedures. The Sr. Library Specialist may be assigned other related tasks in support of Lovejoy Library’s mission and goals.
Minimum qualifications:
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Any combination totaling 4 years from the following categories:
(a) work experience in a library or equivalent setting performing duties comparable to those described in Level III of this series
(https://www.sucss.state.il.us/documents/ClassSpecs/SPEC4900.pdf).
(b) college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent
● 30 semester hours equals six months
● 60 semester hours or an Associate degree equals one year
● 90 semester hours equals two years
● 120 semester hours or a Bachelor’s degree equals three years
● A Master’s or higher degree equals four years
3. As required by the position to be filled, education, training, and/or work experience in the area of
specialization inherent in the position may be required in meeting credential requirements #1 and #2 above:
(a) One year of work experience in a library environment.
Starting salary: $2,018 per month
