The following is a current civil service vacancy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Applicants compete by examination. OFFICE SUPPORT SPECIALIST - SCHOOL OF PHARMACY
Description: The Office Support Specialist provides key administrative support to the faculty, staff and students of the School of Pharmacy. Specific duties include: coordinating meetings and travel, establishing calendars, coordinating SOP classrooms and conference rooms, scheduling academic functions, composing correspondence/memos, maintaining confidential/sensitive information, coordinating semester course evaluations, maintaining/updating course listings/descriptions, maintaining/updating curriculum by class (P1, P2, P3, P4), preparing semester book list, sending email on behalf of, coordinating faculty board reports, releasing surveys and compiling data. Additional tasks such as assisting in preparation of correspondence and events regarding donors and alumni, as well as interacting with external constituents are regular functions of this position. She/he is also responsible for the use of department Pcard, including documenting purchases and serving as departmental card manager for the Director of Development. The Office Support Specialist position may be assigned additional related duties and responsibilities in support of the department's mission and goals.
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Twelve (12) months of clerical/office support work experience.
3. Any one or combination totaling twenty-four (24) months from the following categories:
(a) work experience performing clerical/office support work
(b) vocational training that provided a knowledge of generally accepted clerical procedures
(c) college or university course work in Office Occupations, Business Administration, Business Education,
or closely related fields 36 semester hours = twenty-four (24) months
(d) college or university course work in any curriculum 60 semester hours = twenty-four (24) months
4. Ability to keyboard accurately at a rate of 40 net w.p.m.
Personal Attributes Needed to Undertake Job:
1. Knowledge of various programs including: Microsoft Office, EMS scheduling software, AXIS TV software for digital signage, Banner,
Blackboard, CoursEval, Access, and Luminus.
2. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
3. High level of independent decision making and ability to work without supervision.
Starting Salary: $2,278 per month
