RECREATION AND FITNESS COORDINATOR-CAMPUS RECREATION
(Intramural and Recreation Coordinator is the official title per the State University Civil Service System)
Description: The Recreation and Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the management, planning, budgeting and supervision of all fitness instructional programs provided by Campus Recreation for the students, faculty, and staff of the University. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the physiological and psychological principles of physical activity and healthy lifestyles, and skills in public relations, organizational management, leadership, and evaluation. The Fitness Program is a critical subdivision of the total Campus Recreation department and as such, the Recreation and Fitness Coordinator will be expected to establish quality instructional and activity programs in strength training, cardiovascular training, group exercise, and personal training. Responsibilities also include the promotion and marketing of fitness/wellness programs and services. The Coordinator will also assist in directing, and maintaining informal facility use operations related to the fitness facilities, and work cooperatively with all programs offered by Campus Recreation. The Coordinator oversees the Risk Management protocol for all fitness activities. The responsibilities of the position require direct contact with other academic and service units of the University. The Coordinator may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department’s mission and goals.
Minimum qualifications:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Kinesiology, Physical Education, or closely related field)*
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the promotion, design, development, and administration of recreational programs*
3. Current Certification/Licensure, from a nationally recognized professional organization, requiring continuing education and/or ongoing documentation of proficiency in specialty area required of position such as, personal training, the Group Fitness Instructor Certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) or the Personal Trainer Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or similar license/certification etc.)
*Note: An advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Science,or closely related field may
substitute in meeting the qualifications in number 1 and count for one year of experience in number 2 above.
Starting salary: $3,093 per month
