The following is a current civil service vacancy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Applicants compete by examination. IT TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE/SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR II - IT SERVICES
Description: This position assists in the maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of campus-wide systems. Examples include ID- card, door access systems, vending, cashiering, document imaging/workflow, SharePoint, mobile web development, and advising/retention. Under general supervision, this individual assesses the needs of users and assists in the selection, implementation , and modification of a system; This person documents existing and needed work flows; documents system configuration and changes; works with IT help desk and other IT personnel to troubleshoot incidents; handles service tickets requesting changes; and is capable of enhancing/developing custom solutions. The System Administrator II may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department's mission and goals.
1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
a) Progressively more responsible work experience in IT-related profession
b) College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or
its proportional equivalent:
● 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one year
● 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two years
2. Additional experience desired by the hiring department:
a) Two years (with 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree) of managing computers, networks, or software packages in a complex IT environment
OR Three years (with 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree) of managing computers, networks, or software packages in a complex IT environment.
c) Working knowledge of computer operating systems and peripherals in a networked environment.
Personal attributes needed to undertake job:
a) Ability to handle and resolve ticket-based requests and incidents without direction while continuing progress on independent projects.
b) Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience.
c) Ability to shift focus quickly from one project to another.
d) Must be able to work well in a team oriented, project driven environment.
Starting salary: $4,295 per month
