Upperclass Focused Interest Communities

For the 2013-2014 academic year, Eco-House is the only upperclass FIC available to returning residents.

Current residents who are interested in participating in an upperclass FIC should indicate their interest when they complete the online Application for Space form in January. FIC acceptance is evaluated based on the quality of your application and space availability. In order to be considered for these communities, all roommate requests must be mutual and all students in the roommate group must request the same FIC.

Applicants will be required the answer the following three questions on the online Application for Space when applying to live in a FIC.

  1. The success of a FIC requires each and every resident to be a contributing member. Describe how you will contribute to the success of the FIC which you are applying.
  2. Describe how living in the FIC you selected will encourage or improve your educational experience at SIUE.
  3. Please provide examples of events or programs ideas that can be implemented related to the topic of your chosen FIC.

Eco-House

Eco-House is a small, upperclass community designed to support sustainable living, conservation, and community service conveniently located next to the Gardens at SIUE. Opportunities that will be available to members of this FIC include: volunteering with the Gardens at SIUE, creating and sustaining a community garden, practicing conservation efforts, participation in Recylemania, and potential community partnerships. Eco-House residents will work directly with University Housing to plan and implement "greening" projects and initiatives related to the Eco House and on-campus housing.
