University Housing Stocks Local Food Pantry

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Housing residents collected 1,506 pounds of surplus food to benefit people in the Edwardsville, Glen Carbon and surrounding area, during the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) Red Storm Chapter’s second annual food drive for the Glen Ed Pantry.

The food was collected in each of the housing communities during spring closing, April 26-May 8. It was donated to the Glen Ed Pantry, a United Way agency that serves more than 300 families per month.

University Housing LED Lighting Project Increases Efficiency and Effectiveness

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s University Housing is contributing to utility savings and achieving greater safety and security through an LED lighting project. University Housing Facilities Management (UHFM) was awarded a $21,000 grant through the Department of Commerce that was used to update the exterior lighting at Cougar Village Apartments.

SIUE University Housing Student Leaders Attend IRHA Conference

Six student leaders and a staff advisor from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville attended the annual Illinois Residence Hall Association (IRHA) conference held Feb. 17-19 at Eastern Illinois University. The conference engaged and united Illinois students with a weekend of leadership activities.

University Housing Recognizes Residents on the Deans List

The annual Southern Illinois University Edwardsville University Housing Dean’s List Reception was held Tuesday, Feb. 7 in Evergreen Hall to recognize the 714 University Housing residents who achieved the fall 2016 dean’s list.

The scholarly list is compiled to recognize students who have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated in a term. Nearly 150 students and their guests attended the celebratory reception.

SIUE’s Darling Named Rotary Leader of the Month

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Woodland Hall Resident Assistant Austin Darling has been selected as the Edwardsville Rotary Student Leader of the Month for November/December.

The honors program was created in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary Club and SIUE in spring 2016. Darling received his award at the January Rotary Meeting.

Prairie Hall Hosts 15th Annual Haunted House

SIUE’s Prairie Area Council will celebrate the 15th annual Prairie Hall Haunted House from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. This year’s theme is The Little Haunted House on the Prairie. Admission is free and the spooktacular event is open to everyone on campus.

Future Health Professionals Step Out to Stop Diabetes

Residents of the Health Professionals Focused Interest Community (FIC) in Bluff Hall participated in the 2016 Step Out: Metro East Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

The fundraising event, coordinated by the American Diabetes Association, helps promote awareness about diabetes, a disease that affects nearly 30 million children and adults.
