Campus Housing Fire Safety Video Honoring 2012 SIUE Fatal Fire Victims Viewed by More Than 31,600 Students Nationwide

Five years after an off-campus apartment fire killed Southern Illinois University Edwardsville students Lauren Petersen and Lacy Siddall, a first-of-its-kind fire safety video that was created last April to honor the students and help prevent similar tragedies has been viewed by more than 31,600 students on college campuses nationwide.

Students Welcomed to SIUE During Annual “House Calls” Event

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville extended a personalized welcome to on-campus residents in Prairie, Woodland and Bluff Halls, as well as in Cougar Village, during its annual House Calls event held Tuesday, Aug. 29. University Housing has coordinated the event for 13 years.

Chancellor Randy Pembrook, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jeffrey Waple and more than 60 other SIUE administrators, faculty and staff participated by handing out sweet treats and engaging with the students.

SIUE Welcomes Freshmen to Campus on Move-in Day

Thursday, Aug. 17 marked a significant transition for 1,200 freshmen at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as they moved into their residence halls – their new home away from home as they begin their journey in higher education. University Housing Recognizes Residents on the Deans List

The annual Southern Illinois University Edwardsville University Housing Dean’s List Reception was held Tuesday, Feb. 7 in Evergreen Hall to recognize the 714 University Housing residents who achieved the fall 2016 dean’s list.

The scholarly list is compiled to recognize students who have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated in a term. Nearly 150 students and their guests attended the celebratory reception.

SIUE’s Darling Named Rotary Leader of the Month

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Woodland Hall Resident Assistant Austin Darling has been selected as the Edwardsville Rotary Student Leader of the Month for November/December.

The honors program was created in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary Club and SIUE in spring 2016. Darling received his award at the January Rotary Meeting.

Prairie Hall Hosts 15th Annual Haunted House

SIUE’s Prairie Area Council will celebrate the 15th annual Prairie Hall Haunted House from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. This year’s theme is The Little Haunted House on the Prairie. Admission is free and the spooktacular event is open to everyone on campus.

Future Health Professionals Step Out to Stop Diabetes

Residents of the Health Professionals Focused Interest Community (FIC) in Bluff Hall participated in the 2016 Step Out: Metro East Walk to Stop Diabetes on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

The fundraising event, coordinated by the American Diabetes Association, helps promote awareness about diabetes, a disease that affects nearly 30 million children and adults.
