The Family Resource Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is dedicated to promoting the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth to the children of students living in University Housing's Family Housing. The Family Resource Center aims at fostering a positive, safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all children ages 5 to 12 living in Family Housing. We hope to enable students to achieve the optimal college experience of succeeding in the classroom, studying outside of class, participating in co-curricular activities, and supporting a family; while knowing that their children are safe and participating in an enriching environment that promotes learning and development.
We believe in the value and uniqueness of each child we serve. Developmentally appropriate activities, which stimulate children's intellectual and creative abilities, enhance motor development, and contribute to the acquisition of social skills are the foundation of the curriculum. Independence is encouraged by giving children the freedom to make choices. Each child is viewed as an individual with his/her own rate of growth and development. The unique qualities of each child and adult are valued and differences are respected. We create an environment of cooperation and collaboration to enhance the process of learning to work together. Understanding that the child is a member of his/her family, it is our goal to collaborate with family members in creating the best environment for each child. Building a collaborative relationship between family, child, and Family Resource Center staff members is an integral part of the philosophy.
