Putting the Pieces Together: Living & Learning at SIUE

2017-2018 Faculty Fellow Handbook

Faculty Fellow Funding Request

The Faculty Fellows program is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Provost, the Office of Student Affairs and University Housing. Research has shown that the more contact that occurs between faculty and students both inside and outside the classroom, the more likely students are to develop in college and to be satisfied with their college experience (Astin, 1993). Student development and satisfaction are in direct accordance with the SIUE Academic Affairs Imperative of Student Success and consequently retention.

Jennifer Rehg, Assistant Professor and Faculty Fellow from the Anthropology department says "The Faculty Fellow program reminds students and faculty that we are people outside of those roles, and also provides opportunities to demonstrate that learning does not just happen in the classroom."

Additional benefits include:

  • Improved teaching methods from gaining a better understanding of today’s college student.
  • Documented community service towards tenure requirements.
  • Opportunities to share research with students and potentially recruit undergraduate research assistants.

We have created a simple way for faculty to incorporate involvement by allowing you to choose events that interest you and fit in your schedule. Participation in the Faculty Fellow program consists of approximately 10 hours per semester in the following commitments:

  • Attending Faculty Fellow training
  • Assisting with Move In in August
  • Developing a communicative relationship with the RA(s) of your communities.
  • Attending events such as bowling, BBQs, community meetings and more.

As a faculty fellow you can truly make this your own experience. If you are interested in applying to be a Faculty Fellow, complete your application here. Or, if have questions, please contact Vicky Dean, Assistant Director of Residence Life for Residential Education at or (618) 650‑5296.

The Faculty Fellow interest form is now available. Please complete and submit the form below. Thank you for your interest!
