SIS is a community for first year students that desire a cohesive community that explores making the world a better place by focusing on living sustainably. SIS is intended to teach students how they can make choices in their daily lives that impact the world they live in. This community will teach students more about sustainability which is the ability for all people to live well without compromising the quality of life for future generations.
FIC students will have the opportunity to take 1 of two sustainability themed courses with their peers, engage in meaningful service work, and the opportunity to work with university staff. Students may select from an anthropological or biological course in conjunction with SIS. This class satisfies a general education requirement for most undergraduates degree programs.
For the 2012-2013 academic year, the SIS community will be located in Woodland Hall.
“This community has definitely made me start thinking greener. I learned how much sustainability really encompasses and how it can play a role in all kinds of daily life.”
To be considered for admission to SIS, students must indicate their interest on the University Housing application.
