Student Staff Positions


Resident Assistant


Interested in making an impact on our campus community? Want to make a difference in other peoples’ lives? Are you ready to be challenged? Apply to be a Resident Assistant; it’s the ultimate campus leadership experience! University Housing is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic students with strong communication skills and leadership potential to serve as Resident Assistants. University Housing employs 59 Resident Assistants; 33 in the 3 residence halls and 26 in Cougar Village apartments.

RA Selection begins in during the fall semester for the following academic year. Students interested in applying to be an RA must attend one of the mandatory Information Sessions in November. Students should watch for marketing materials within University Housing beginning in October and for information on CougarNet.

To be eligible for the RA position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Attend and sign in at one RA Information Session.
  • Turn in a completed application by the published deadline.
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA (RAs are required to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout their employment).
  • Have lived in University Housing for 2 semesters before becoming an RA (summer is counted as a semester)
  • Must be in good financial and disciplinary standing with the University.

Desk Manager (Residence Halls)


Responsible for the operation of the front desk at the residence hall. The front desk is responsible for monitoring the security system, distributing parcels, key control, providing customer service, and controlling access to the building, living area and administrative offices.

To serve the residents of the building, the Desk Manager will be required to answer phones, provide general information, distribute forms, assist with lock-outs, coordinate communication between on-duty staff members, assist with the use of the meeting spaces and public areas of the building, and assist residents with maintenance problems.

Desk Managers are expected to be thoroughly familiar with and assist in enforcing the policies and procedures of University Housing and the University.

Customer service skills required for the position include: handling concerns, receiving and directing calls and inquiries with a professional manner, displaying a willingness to work with people other than staff members, and being able to communicate assertively.

Commons Manager (Cougar Village)

Family Resource Center Student Staff (FRC, Cougar Village)


The Family Resource Center was established to assist the 120 student families that reside at University Housing's Cougar Village. The Center offers a variety of programming for married couples and parents and their children ranging from academic and social to creative and educational. Student staff assist with programming efforts geared toward the children living in Family Housing.

Student Maintenance Worker (University Housing Facilities Management)


The Student Maintenance Worker staff is responsible for cleaning hallways, breezeways, offices, restrooms and laundries. This staff may assist with University Housing recycling efforts.

Requirements: Strength/Ability to move/stack furniture. Must be able to work 4 or 8 hour time blocks. Hours for shifts: 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Some weekend work may be required. Must have valid drivers license. Some clerical duties may be involved.
