WANTED:  Future RAs Who Possess: a Positive Attitude, Leadership Skills, and Being a Positive Role Model

The Resident Assistant (RA) is a key member of University Housing.  As a front line employee, it is the RA's responsibility, under direction of the Hall Director/Assistant Community Director, to assist student residents, serve as a resource person, plan and implement programs, interpret and enforce policies, develop community, and assist with the administrative tasks.  The RA position is one of the most challenging and rewarding student leadership positions available on campus.

Although the main selection process for the 2008-2009 process is completed, applications are still being accepted.  Students interested in applying to be an RA must schedule a meeting with Sheila Coressel, Assistant Director for Training & Development.  Sheila can be contact via phone (650-4629) or e-mail (scoress@siue.edu).

To be eligible for the RA position, candidates must:

  1. Attend and sign in at one of the RA Information Sessions
    • Turn in a completed application to Sheila Coressel by the determined deadline.
    • Submit two reference forms to Sheila Coressel by the determined deadline.
  2. Complete an online job referral form from the Student Employment website (www.siue.edu/studentemployment/), print the form, and turn it in with your completed application.
    • Log-in to CougarNet and select Advanced Search.
    • Choose "On-Campus" in the Location box and search.  DO not choose any other option.
    • Once you find the "Resident Assistant" position, click on it.
    • Then scroll down and click on "View Contact Information."  This is the Job Referral form.
  3. Have at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA by the time you assume the position (RAs are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA).
  4. Have lived in University Housing for at least two full semesters by the time you would become an RA if hired.  Summer counts as a semester.
  5. Be in good financial, academic, and disciplinary standing.

In addition, RAs are not allowed to student teach, be involved with a co-op, be enrolled in the School of Pharmacy program, or be in their final semester of nursing clinicals (semester eight).

Any application received after December 7, 2007 will not be reviewed until after Spring Break 2008.  Qualified candidates will be notified at that time about their status.
