The Community Director is a full time, live-in professional staff member responsible for the daily operations of a 500-bed residence hall or a portion of an apartment community. The Community Director directly supervises 1 Graduate Assistant (Assistant Community Director) and 11-16 undergraduate Resident Assistants. The Community Director is charged with creating an atmosphere that promotes student engagement, academic success, personal development, respect for diversity, and a strong sense of community. The Community Director plays an integral role in residential curriculum development and further growing the living-learning program housed in their community. On-call responsibilities shared for approximately 3,500 on-campus students.

The Community Director starting salary for the 2013-2014 academic year is currently set at $29,256.
Waiver of Tuition

Staff Apartments
University Housing provides Community Directors with a furnished, carpeted two-bedroom apartment with cable and an Ethernet Internet subscription. The apartments are in close proximity to the Community Director’s parking space.
Meal Stipend
Community Directors receive a $500 meal stipend each semester (fall and spring) for dining on campus. This plan includes Pizza Hut, Freshens, the University Restaurant, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and Starbucks.
Professional Development
Each Community Director may attend one approved professional conference at no cost. Community Directors may be “sent” to other conferences and the department covers these conferences. In addition to the traditional Student Affairs professional development opportunities, many campus offices and departments offer classes, lectures, and workshops for professional staff.
Benefits
Community Directors are considered employees of the State of Illinois. This provides comprehensive health insurance plans at competitive prices. Dental, Optical, and Prescription plans are also available. Eligible employees can purchase low cost long-term disability coverage to supplement the disability benefits under the State Universities Retirement System. Deducted premiums are tax-exempt. The University pays for approximately 11 designated Holidays. In addition, CDs accrue 25 vacation days per year. Eligible employees earn 40 sick leave days per fiscal year. Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards
The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Community Standards (ADCS) is responsible for administering a comprehensive Housing-wide student conduct program. The ADCS assists in the development of policies and procedures, maintains conduct records, conducts hearings, and provides indirect supervision to Residence Life staff in their role as conduct hearing officer. The ADCS develops and implements educational programs and training events for the Housing community educating them on community standards, civility and the conduct process. The ADCS assists in the development and administration of departmental assessment initiatives and reporting, including gathering data and statistics. The ADCS mentors and counsels students on issues related to academic, social, and personal success. The ADCS makes student referrals to relevant University departments and outside agencies when appropriate. This is a live-off position with no on-call/duty responsibilities.
