Cougar Village has 496 student apartments in 62 buildings and offers style and comfort seldom associated with college housing. It is home to single students, graduate students, and family residents. Traditional freshman are not allowed to reside in Cougar Village unless they are contracted family residents. As of Fall 2000, all apartments were fully renovated, which brought technological updates and a more comfortable atmosphere to the apartments. Cougar Village is just a short walk or shuttle ride from classrooms and main campus buildings.
Single residents are assigned to a two-bedroom, three-person apartment; a three-person apartment; a four-person apartment; or a three-bedroom, four person apartment. Applicants may choose a shared bedroom (two people in a bedroom designed for two) or a private bedroom (one person in a bedroom designed for one). Private bedrooms are in very limited supply. A typical shared bedroom size is 12 'x 10'. A typical private bedroom is 8' x 11'.
Cougar Village residents have the option of purchasing an A la Carte Meal Plan. By electing to have a meal plan, residents may chose from any of the following plans (prices listed per semester): Plan A - $1,290, Plan B - $1,780, Plan D - $100, Plan E - $500 or Plan F - $250. Each plan has a declining balance. Each time food is purchased, the resident's Cougar Card (SIUE photo I.D.) is read and validated electronically and the amount of the purchase is deducted from the student's balance. Balances may be checked at any time by requesting a receipt from the cashier. Dining services are at several locations within the University Center, academic buildings, and University Housing.
