International Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

1. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED A NEW INSURANCE CARD YET. WHEN WILL I RECEIVE IT?

It takes about 3 - 4 weeks after classes start for you to receive your new card. Until then, if you need to present a card to an outside provider, please contact Health Service for instructions.

2. I LOST MY INSURANCE CARD. CAN I GET ANOTHER ONE?

Health Service staff will request a new card for you at no charge. It may take a couple of weeks for you to receive it. Until then, if you need to present a card to an outside provider, please contact Health Service for instructions.

3. WILL I RECEIVE A NEW INSURANCE CARD FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER?

Returning students will use the same card they received in the fall semester. New students will receive a new card for the spring semester.

4. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE I AM REIMBURSED FOR MY IMMUNIZATIONS?

You will typically be reimbursed within 30 days of your immunization.

5. WILL I BE REIMBURSED FOR ANY LABS OR PRESCRIPTIONS THAT I RECEIVED AT HEALTH SERVICE?

You can submit a claim form which are available online at siue.myahpcare.com or at the Health Service office. Labs will go towards your $250 deductible. Once you have reached your deductible, you will be reimbursed for any labs. Students are required to pay a copayment for any prescriptions. The copayment is $10 for a generic brand drug and $30 for a preferred name-brand drug. After you have paid the copayment, the insurance company will pick up the remaining amount for your prescription.

6. IS VISION INSURANCE INCLUDED?

Vision insurance is not included in this plan. You may call Academic Health Plans 1-855-825-3986 for information.

7. I NEED A CHEST X-RAY BECAUSE I HAD A POSITIVE QUANTIFERON TEST. IS THIS COVERED BY MY INSURANCE AND WILL I GET REIMBURSED?

You will be responsible for this charge and it will be applied to your insurance deductible. If you have met your annual deductible, you will be reimbursed at 80%.

8. I HAVE MY OWN INSURANCE. DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE THE SCHOOL'S INSURANCE?

All students holding F-1 and J-1 visas will be automatically enrolled in the SIUE Health Insurance plan.  If you are sponsored by your home government or you are a dependent of an H visa and have comparable coverage, please submit a waiver request at siue.myahpcare.com.  Instructions are available at the Health Service office.
