Job Description:

The news coordinator at WSIE—a 50,000-watt FM radio station licensed by the SIU Board of Trustees—oversees all aspects of radio news, including gathering news from station internet sources, writing news copy, and broadcasting news on air with professional quality. The ideal WSIE news coordinator candidate would be enrolled in the graduate mass communications program and have some skills in scheduling, training and developing a staff of undergraduate newscasters.

In addition, the news coordinator writes and produces public service segments (Metro Talk) and undertakes other everyday tasks generally associated with being the primary caretaker of the newsroom organization of a radio station.  The news coordinator also files quarterly reports listing public affairs programming broadcast on WSIE-FM that is then placed in the station's public file.

Qualifications Required: The ideal candidate has reliable, personal transportation, is willing to work very early and/or late hours, if necessary, from time to time; and must live year-round in the Metro East area. The GA works during breaks and holidays when necessary.

Period of Appointment: 07/01/2014 - 06/30/2015 with option to renew

Salary: $896 per month
