Hiring Unit: Campus Recreation- Recreational Sports Programming/ Outdoor Recreation
Job Description: Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Recreational Programs, this person is responsible for assisting in the planning, development and implementation of all outdoor recreation related activities. The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: coordinating, planning and leading outdoor recreation trips; developing and conducting training for student employees; recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluating student employees, along with staff development; creating outdoor recreation programs and activities; managing day to day operations of the indoor rock climbing facility and marina on campus; and assisting with student payroll, budget planning, policy development, and the equipment inventory/purchasing process as necessary.
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with campus wide special events as well as departmental wide programming. This individual will also assist in all related administrative duties. A combined workload of 20 hours per week is expected with the majority of work taking place in the evenings and weekends.
Qualifications Required: Applicant must be admitted into a graduate program of study at SIUE. This person must possess a passion and knowledge of outdoor pursuits and activities; strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively and independently. Successful candidate will be asked to maintain certification in the following areas: American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. A bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology or closely related field is required.
Period of Appointment: August 15, 2014 - May 8, 2015, with possibility for renewal.
Salary: $1065 per month (1st year); $1131 per month (2nd year) (per Internal Revenue Service regulations, IRC 127, federal taxes will be withheld on tuition waiver amounts exceeding $5250 in a calendar (January-December) year.)
