Job Description: Assists in one of the following operations of Library and Information Services: Access Services, Instruction & Outreach, Research Commons and Technical Services. Duties may include any of the following:
Access Services (General Assistant): assisting patrons or faculty members; supervising student assistants; assisting in the preparation of reports; assisting in circulation database records creation and maintenance; assisting in maintenance of Library Reserves computer and audio-visual equipment; requires evening and weekend hours.
Technical Services (General Assistant): assisting in the preparation of forms and reports; providing commercial bindery and clerical support; assisting in the supervision and evaluation of student assistants.
Research Commons/Information Desk (General Assistant): assisting patrons or faculty members; supervising student assistants; using automated reference services; conducting basic orientation and instruction tours; providing bibliographic and clerical support; assisting in the preparation of forms and reports.
Instruction & Outreach (Teaching Assistant): Perform duties that are instructional in nature. Primarily serves in a position where main responsibility is providing classroom instruction or assisting in the development of instructional materials. Teaches lower level general information literacy subject content primarily in a classroom setting but also may engage in one-on-one with the user. Assists in the development of instructional materials, displays, and other demonstrations. Supports other related information literacy projects or activities within the Library or externally.
Qualifications Required: Previous library work experience desirable. Good oral communication and customer service skills required. Applicant must be enrolled in Master's program and carry a minimum of six hours of course work each semester. Evening and weekend work may be required.
Period of Appointment: Semester contract, FY 13; renewable for each subsequent semester through Summer term 2013 at either 25 percent or 50 percent appointment
Salary: 50% appointment 25% appointment
First-year assistant $896-1234 per month $395-553 per month
Second-year assistant $951-1311 per month $422-591 per month
