LITERACY EDUCATION

Master of Science in Education
Literacy Specialist Post-Master’s Certificate

Admission Requirements for both

GPA  of at least 3.0; teaching certificate in early childhood, elementary, secondary, or special education; 3 hours of children’s literature at the undergraduate or graduate level.; a minimum of two years of full time contract teaching; two letters of recommendation; passing score on literacy disposition paper, and an interview.

Exit Requirements

Pass the Assessment of Professional Teaching (APT 104) one semester prior to program completion; Earn an A or a B in all program courses; present and pass the final Literacy Program Notebooks and final disposition paper demonstrating proficiency in all the standards and have resources for each of the literacy areas; provide evidence of membership in a professional organization (ie. IRC, IRA, NRC, or NCTE).

In addition, candidates for the MSEd must pass the literacy action research project.
