The Faculty Institute for Research, Scholarship, and Technology (FIRST) is workshop designed to familiarize you with resources provided by the Graduate School, help you establish your research agenda, and acquaint you with tools to enhance your teaching and research. Topics include the grants process, finding funding for research and teaching, classroom technology, introduction to grant writing, compliance issues, budgets, intellectual property, contracts, and fiscal responsibilities.
Beginning in FY 2008, new tenure-track faculty will be awarded $1,500 after completion of the FIRST program and submission of an external grant proposal. FIRST awards will be distributed to augment faculty departmental Start-Up funds and may be used to purchase laptop computers. For all other expenditures, please refer to the New Faculty Start-Up Funds website.
NOTE: Participation in FIRST is optional.
The FIRST 2008-2009 workshop schedule is as follows:
Option 1: Monday, August 10, 2009 - Friday, August 12, 2009
Meets from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. daily in the Morris University Center (MUC)
Option 2: Monday, January 4, 2010 – Friday, January 6, 2010 (tentative)
Meets from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. daily in the Graduate School Conference Room
