I. Announcements
Associate Provost for Research and Dean of the Graduate School Stephen Hansen reminded those present that the Graduate School Open House would take place on Thursday, October 16th. So far, the Admissions office has pre-registered 117 students. Last year, forty-one students submitted applications during the Open House. On November 5th, the University is sponsoring a Graduate School Fair with thirty-five other universities. Hansen also announced that Governor Blagojevich declared the week of October 20-24, 2008, to be Graduate Education week in Illinois. Associate Dean of the Graduate School Ron Schaefer announced that the Graduate Honors Day Luncheon would be held on Wednesday, October 22nd; all Graduate Council members are invited.
II. Approval of Minutes of September 12th, 2008
Marcus Agustin made a motion to approve the minutes; Rakesh Bharati seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
III. Report of the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee did not meet.
IV. Report of the Programs Committee
A. Form 91B – Kinesiology: Drop Professional Development Sequence
B. Form 91B – Kinesiology: Drop Exercise Physiology Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
C. Form 91B – Kinesiology: Drop Pedagogy/Administration Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
D. Form 91B – Kinesiology: Drop Sport and Exercise Behavior Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
The graduate program wishes to terminate these portions of the Kinesiology graduate program due to lack of enrollment and occasional confusion when students mistakenly apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Certificates instead of the MSEd. The department feels that the “program description [of these certificates and PDS] ‘clutters’ [the] graduate catalog.” No students or faculty are affected by this change, and there is no impact on the budget.
The motion to accept these changes passed unanimously.
V. Report of the Educational and Research Policies Committee
The ERP received an update on the RCR issue from Regina McBride, the Dean of Lovejoy Library and Professor Lydia Jackson. ERP will continue to discuss the matter. ERP will discuss the definition of “seed money” for the STEP program via e-mail.
VI. Continuing Business
There was no continuing business.
VII. New Business
There was no new business.
VIII. Adjournment
Rakesh Bharati made a motion to adjourn; Marcus Agustin seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 2:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephen L. Hansen,
Associate Provost for Research and Dean,
The Graduate School
