I. Announcements
There were no announcements.
II. Minutes of October 29, 2012
Poonam Jain moved to approve the minutes as submitted, Andrea Hester seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
III. Research Center Promotion Policy
The research centers on campus hire research faculty members, for whom there is no promotion policy. The Graduate School proposed that a policy be created to address this issue. The ranks of Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor and Research Professor were designed to closely align with current tenure track faculty descriptions. Expectations include research, service and teaching. Discussion included how a promotion committee would be chosen considering the small number of research faculty currently on campus. The proposed policy was adjusted to clarify that letters of evaluation from external reviewers are to be kept confidential and to clarify that at each level the research faculty member was expected to “continue to grow in stature in scholarship, teaching, and service.”
Marcus Agustin made a motion to amend the proposal as specified; Andrea Hester seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Joe Schober made a motion to approve the policy as amended; Leah O’Brien seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
IV. Faculty Handbook Tenure Policy and Guidelines
ERP reviewed a proposal to include the ranks of “research professor, research associate professor, [and] research assistant professor” in the Faculty Handbook if the promotion policy for research faulty is approved.
Marcus Agustin made a motion to approve the policy; Joe Schober seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
V. Continuing Business
A. Doctoral Policies Subcommittee
Poonam Jain is the chair of the doctoral policies subcommittee, whose members include Lynn Maurer, Linda Morice, Jason Stacy, Kathy Ketchum, and Terry Yan. The subcommittee met twice, and substantial progress has been made.

Poonam Jain made a motion to adjourn; Joe Schober seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
