About SIUe Global Village

SIUE Global Village is a half-hour weekly magazine about the people of SIUE and their academic, cultural and social connections with the campus, the community, the nation and the world. This student-produced program features interviews with both SIUE people and the interesting individuals who visit campus to share their knowledge and talents. In addition, the program airs a number of field-produced, taped stories, from the arts and sciences to student activities and sports. 

The program can be viewed on every cable TV system in St. Louis city and county via the Higher Education Channel, which feeds its program schedule to all cable systems by microwave from the studios of public television station KETC, Channel 9, in St. Louis. On the Illinois side of the river, SIUE Global Village's producer, a Mass Communications Department graduate assistant, delivers tapes of the show each week to cable TV outlets in Madison County. The combined coverage on this side of the river coupled with the TV household reach of the HEC network provides SIUE with a platform to reach almost 2 million of the 2.5 million TV viewers in the greater St. Louis area.

 

Stacy Singh, Producer

Stacy Singh is the Producer for SIUE Global Village. Stacy has been Assistant Producer for the show since the fall in 2008. She is currently a graduate student of the Mass Communications program at SIUE. She did her undergraduate work at Eastern Illinois University in Media Studies. Her focus in is film and hopes to become part of the film industry upon graduation

Her credits include working as a broadcast assistant at KMOV-TV, channel 4 St. Louis and 'Full Voice Productions' in Chicago. A few directors that have influenced her are Federico Fellini, Afred Hitchcock, and Quentin Tarantino. She also likes the comedic acting style of NBC's, "The Office" and Fox's "Arrested Development."

If she has a free weekend, she likes to travel to Chicago to visit friends; however, she remains an avid St. Louis cardinals fan as her hometown is located twenty minutes from Busch stadium in Fairview Heights, IL.

 

 

Cory Byers, Executive Producer

In addition to executive producing Global Village, Cory Byers teaches courses in video production, advertising, and corporate media in the Department of Mass Communications at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is also the Director of Video Services for the department’s in-house production company, producing commercials and corporate videos for local and regional clients. Byers also serves as the faculty advisor to SIUE’s student chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

Prior to teaching at Edwardsville,
he taught for two years in the Department of Radio-Television at Southern Illinois
University Carbondale (SIUC) where he taught courses in video production and mass media and worked with the student-produced news-magazine

Byers has a MA in Professional Media Practice from SIUC (‘05) and a MS in Advertising from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (’99).= Between grad schools, he worked as a Marketing Manager for a sports and fitness book publisher and as a camera operator and technical director for a PBS-affiliated TV station.
