Gardening Series: These activities are offered as a partnership between The Gardens at SIUE and the Office of Educational Outreach and all proceeds benefit The Gardens’ future educational programs!


Preserving The Harvest

Register

Enjoying fresh, local fruits and vegetables packed with peak flavor is a summertime tradition for many of us. Join us for a hands-on cooking class where we will discuss and demonstrate tried and true food
preservation techniques. Learn the basics of canning, freezing, and dehydration so that you can bring the
summer harvest to the table for family and friends any time of year!

Please arrive prepared to work in small groups handling fresh produce and practicing preservation techniques in the kitchen. Each participant will take home recipes and delicious products prepared
in class. Register early; space is limited! Space provided courtesy of the Edwardsville Community
Unit School District #7.

Attracting Winter Birds & Bird Feeding

This program will introduce participants to the seasonal species that overwinter in our area, and how to prepare your yard to support birds. The main elements of the program will focus on identifying
winter birds in our region, the resources local birds need during fall and winter, and techniques for attracting birds to your yard. After the indoor program we may visit some locations within The Gardens to
see how some of these techniques have been applied. Please bring binoculars and a field guide if you would like for the walk outdoors.

Register

Join Kevin Adkins, SIUE’s Sustainability Officer, to learn some tips and techniques for maximizing energy efficiency and choosing healthy, earth friendly products when remodeling and / or repairing your home. This is a great workshop for the do-it-yourselfers!

Love Of Chocolate

Please join us for a morning of chocolate heaven. J & J Chocolate Chalet owners, Jan and Jamie, will demonstrate a number of techniques they have learned through trial and error which produces heavenly chocolates. Your taste buds will be saying “Thank You!” This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn how to make delicious treats in time for the Holiday season.
