Boris Ilievski, or "Kete", was born and educated in Skopje, Macedonia. Folk dance and music were traditions in his family. Kete's father, Ilija Ilievski, was the first Macedonian choreographer and artistic director of the ensemble Koco Racin, and was a musician for Radio Skopje playing a number of traditional Macedonian instruments. For those who have seen the classic 1948 film Jugoslavenski Narodni Plesovi (Yugoslav Folk Dances), Ilija appeared in that film as the leader of the dance Postupano Oro.
Kete joined Koco Racin in 1959, and was choreographer of the ensemble from 1965 through 1984 and artistic director from 1973 to 1984. He also worked as a choreographer for the Svetozar Markovic' ensemble in Yugoslavia, the Jedinstvo ensemble in Croatia, Domain Musique in France, Les Enfents des Cathieaux in Belgium, and the George Tomov Ensemble in New York City. Kete was co-founder of the Seminar for Macedonian Folklore in Struga, Macedonia, and has won awards in dance and choreography competitions. Kete currently lives in Ontario and has taught at workshops and festivals throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.
Chris Bajmakovitch is a Macedonian band leader and accomplished accordion player from the Chicago area. Paul Mangov is a kaval and clarinet player from Toronto. Other local area musicians may also be present.
