Join us for an exciting evening of exciting and authentic folk music and dances from Hungary and Transylvania at its best, from one of the finest folk ensembles of its kind!

The Tükrös Hungarian Folk Ensemble was founded in 1986 and today is one of Hungary's most respected revival folk bands.  The group specializes in collecting authentic folk music from remote villages of Hungary and Transylvania and from archival recordings, and preserving and presenting this music in its most authentic form yet in a style most entertaining and suitable for all audiences.  Their performance is a voyage back to times when traditional folk music was an integral and crucial part of a village community’s daily life.

Tükrös Ensemble Dancers

Tükrös is a regular band at the Fonö a popular folk music club in Budapest.  The ensemble's CD's have been very popular, especially their disc of folk music collection from Szatmár county (in northeastern Hungary) which became a landmark release.  In addition to performing, the band members are dedicated to teaching folk music in schools and organizing an annual folk music camp in Hungary.  The band has toured throughout Europe, twice in Australia and once in North America.

Members of Tükrös include musicians Attila Halmos, Gergely Koncz, Péter Árendás, Endre Liber, and András Lelkes, as well as dancers and teachers Barbara Baranyai and Ignác Kádár.

We are especially fortunate in St. Louis to hear this music presented with the dances it was intended to accompany.  Don't miss it!
