A concert and dance party featuring
the Bulgarian Folk Music Ensemble

Lexicon is a New York-based Bulgarian band led by Radi Gueorguiev. The band plays Bulgarian music in the traditional style as well as in the modern wedding band style made popular by such musicians as Ivo Papasov. The members of this band are musicians academically and professionally trained in Bulgaria in the art of Bulgarian Folk Music, and each is highly proficient in several instruments. The band has had great acceptance locally and internationally. Bulgarian traditional music is based on complex rhythms not found in any other music in the world, and the unique nature of the structure of the music require years of experience. The members of Lexicon are:

• Radi Gueorguiev (tambura, keyboard, voice): Radi is an internationally known composer and a unique interpreter of Bulgarian and Eastern European modern and traditional music. His career has taken him to Greece, Germany, Norway, Cyprus, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates and finally to the US. He is a member of ASCAP and has been featured on three CD's.
• Pepa Stoyanova (voice): Born in the town of Sliven, Pepa graduated from the Shiroka Luka Music School. Her repertoire includes songs from all of Bulgaria's folklore regions, but she is particularly at home with songs from Thrace and Strandja. She sang for two years with the Sliven Ensemble and for nine years with the Strandja Ensemble. She has performed throughout Europe and presently lives in New York City.
• Kevo Hazarian (tapan, drums, voice): Kevo is a graduate of the Music High School of Stara Zagora and has played with many popular music groups in Bulgaria.
• Pavel Peev (accordion and voice): Pavel began studying accordion at the age of five. He is a graduate of the Sopot Music School. He was a member of the Ensemble Karlovska Rosa and has performed throughout Europe.
• Georgi Georgiev (gadulka, saxophone, clarinet, gaida, kaval, ocarina, voice): Georgi began studying gadulka at age seven. He is a graduate of the Music High School in Kotel and specializes in music from Thrace. He is also an accomplished saxophone player of Bulgarian Wedding Music.

A new CD, The Best From Bulgaria, has been produced by Lexicon featuring music for well-known Bulgarian dances such as Rachenitza, Triti Puti, Kopanitza, Graovsko and Chetvorno Horo. The evening will start with a 30- to 45-minute concert by the Lexicon Band, followed by a dance party with authentic and exciting live music played by Lexicon. Beginners are very welcome. Comfortable shoes are recommended.

Private lessons are available from the members of Lexicon in singing, gadulka, gaida, clarinet, accordion, or tapan. Cost for private lessons is $35 per hour. Group lessons can also be arranged.
