Important Information Regarding Verification Documentation
According to Federal Regulations effective with the 2012-2013 award year we are no longer allowed to accept copies of Federal Income Tax forms. We are only allowed to accept an official Federal Tax Return Transcript from the IRS. Since you were selected for verification you may need to obtain an official Federal Tax Return Transcript for yourself, and your parent(s) if applicable, by calling the IRS at 1-800-908-9946 or on the web at www.irs.gov .
It could take up to 10 weeks (only 10 days to 2 weeks if you filed electronically) for you to receive your tax return transcript(s); therefore, you need to call right away. Remember, the longer you wait to turn in your verification documents the longer it could take to complete your file and receive your award notification for the 2012-2013 award year. It is possible, if you wait too long, your financial aid will not be available when bills are due for the fall.
As an alternative to the tax return transcript, if it has been at least two weeks since you have electronically filed your 2011 tax return, or 6 weeks if you mailed your tax return, you may choose to update your FAFSA by using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool that is imbedded in the FAFSA. It can be found at the beginning of the Financial Information section of the FAFSA. Submitting your tax information in this matter may result in the request for the Tax Return Transcript to be waived.
For information on tax transcripts needed and additional documents required for verification please see CougarNet. As usual, if you have any questions you may email us at finaid@siue.edu, call us at 1-618-650-3880, or visit us at 2308 Rendleman Hall.

If you answered "YES" to any one of these questions, your financial aid could be terminated.
What can I do if my financial aid is terminated?
File an appeal. If extenuating circumstances (illness, death in the family, etc.) contributed to your lack of satisfactory academic progress, you may request an appeal. Appeal forms can be found at siue.edu/financialaid/forms.shtml.
