| How does SIUE support your professional growth or activity as a Teacher-Scholar? "Before I obtained my Ph.D. and joined SIUE, I had worked as a consulting engineer in Canada for more than seven years. I have been a Professional Engineer (P.E.) since 1994 and a board certified specialist in Water Supply and Wastewater by American Academy of Environmental Engineers since 2004. I found that my engineering experience obtained from the practice and the industry greatly enhanced my ability to communicate and establish linkages with both the academic and professional communities. For example, I have acted as a reviewer for journals (e.g., ASCE Journal of Environmental Engineering), technical publications (e.g., USEPA Design Manual for Municipal Wastewater Stabilization Ponds), conferences (e.g., International Water Association, America Society for Engineering Education), and proposals (e.g., US National Science Foundation, North Carolina Biotechnology Center), contributed to the organization of technical conferences, and acted as a committee member or in leadership roles of professional organizations (e.g., secretary of the Residuals Management Technical Committee of Environmental & Water Resources Institute of American Society of Civil Engineers)."
