How does SIUE support your professional growth or activity as a Teacher-Scholar?
"The SIUE environment encourages both teaching and research. There are a number of ways that SIUE has supported my professional growth as a teacher-scholar.  Support has always been available from the Mechanical Engineering Department and Graduate School to attend conferences.  A variety of internal funding programs are available from the Graduate School to support the research activities of the faculty. The Library at SIUE is a great resource for further reading and research.  I have personally benefited from a number of these programs at SIUE to support my activities as a teacher-scholar."

What is a unique aspect of your professional life that enhances your service to the academic or greater community?
"I have been the Associate Editor of Heat Transfer Engineering (an international journal) since 1999.  I also review technical papers for a number of journals. These activities have helped me to keep in touch with the frontiers of research in my field, and at the same time, to provide a service to my profession. The knowledge and experience gained through editorship also has a favorable impact on my teaching and scholarly work at SIUE."

Please share how one mentor or event shaped your career decision to become a university professor.
"I have always loved the university environment when I was an undergraduate student and later as a graduate student.  But the main factor that made me to move towards an academic career was my Ph.D. advisor.  Spending many hours in the laboratory and in his office every day, my advisor devoted considerable time to research and to the supervision of his students.  He was also a great teacher in the classroom, and never reduced his teaching load because of research.  Although the phrase 'teacher-scholar' was not common in those days, he was a true example of a great teacher-scholar and a role model for his students."
