How does SIUE support your professional growth or activity as a Teacher-Scholar?
"SIUE has been phenomenal at allowing me to push the envelope with respect to new and interesting ways to educate our students.  By focusing on the education of our students, the culture here at SIUE provides the opportunity to integrate your scholarship interests with your interaction with students.  Frankly, many research ideas come from bright students asking insightful questions."

Please share how one mentor or event shaped your career decision to become a university professor.
"I never had any intention of pursuing a career in education.  When interviewing for residencies, the program I was the most interested in had a strong university affiliation, as well as the requirement for didactic and experiential teaching.  Research was also a requirement. These aspects of the post-doc, which I was dreading the most, turned out to be the most fun largely because of the antics of my residency mentor.  I still can’t believe they pay me to do this (note: please continue to send paychecks)!"
