Peer Consulting and Mentoring Program

The Peer Consulting/Mentoring Program offers faculty a wide variety of options to receive additional support in teaching, research, and service.  Faculty may request two teaching-related feedback types from the Peer Consulting/Mentoring Program.

GIFT (Group Instructional Feedback Technique) entails talking to students in groups or as a whole in the absence of their instructor.

Observation of class by a colleague can provide faculty valuable exchanges of ideas and approaches to a variety of teaching and learning situations. The class observation program is designed to help teachers improve instruction in the classrooms and laboratories to enhance student learning.

In regards to service and leadership, Peer Consulting Mentors can:

  • Work with you on one-on-one basis to address your questions, challenges, or concerns relating to your service.
  • Assist faculty in identifying service interests that can be most rewarding to the individual and most beneficial to the the academic community.

Faculty Mentoring Students with Disabilities

The goal of the FMSDP is to enhance the learning experience for students with disabilities by assigning faculty mentors to any student participating in The Disabilities Support Services. These faculty mentors meet with students on a regular basis and assist students in strategizing about the complexities of university life.  Specifically, the faculty mentor will help students deal with curricular and co-curricular access.
