About the Facilitator:

Dr. Larissa (Lacie) Barber earned her Ph.D. from Saint Louis University in 2010. She is an Assistant Professor in the Social/Industrial-Organizational Psychology program in the Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University. In addition to supervising undergraduate internships in the psychology department, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in industrial-organizational psychology, personnel psychology, occupational health psychology, and research ethics/professional issues. She has received two Instructional Resource Awards from the Society of Teaching Psychology for her work on participant ethics (2011) and undergraduate internship supervision (2014). She regularly publishes research in areas of teaching psychology, work-life balance, sleep/health behaviors, and work stress. 

About the Workshop:

This workshop will discuss how to provide structure around the academic requirements of internships using experiential learning principles and techniques. Using a “student employability framework” we will discuss internship course design strategies, associated educational activities, and a student self-assessment of employability behaviors to guide student career development.
