How to Post on Blog Discussion Boards

In order to make a post in the discussion boards under Blog posts, you must log in to Disqus, the program used for the discussion board.

To log into Disqus, you may link your existing accounts (i.e. Google, Twitter, or Facebook) to Disqus or you may sign up for a Disqus account independent from Google, Twitter, or Facebook.

Disqus

To log in using your Disqus account:

  1. Click “Login” at the right-hand corner of the discussion board.
  2. Click “Disqus”.
  3. A pop-up window will appear and ask for your email and password. Type in your email address and password associated to your Disqus account.
  4. Click “Log In”.
  5. Once you’ve logged in, you may type and post your comment in the discussion board.

If you do not have a Disqus account and would like to make one:

  1. Click “Need an account?” in the pop-up window.
  2. Type your name, email address, and password that you would like to be associated with your Disqus account. (The name you choose will be the name displayed next to your comments on the discussion boards.)
  3. Click “Sign Up”.
  4. An email from Disqus will be sent to the email address you entered. Open the email and click “Verify [your email address].”
  5. Clicking this button will open a web browser window to the Disqus website with a green banner saying “Email verified!”
  6. Now, you may post on the discussion boards. To post on the discussion board, you may refresh the SIUE blog webpage after email verification.

Before posting your comment, please make sure you are logged in by checking your name is at the top right-hand corner of the discussion board (where “Login” used to be) and there is a dark grey button at the bottom right-hand corner of the text box that says “Post as [your name].”


Facebook

To create a Disqus account using your Facebook account:

  1. Click “Login” at the right-hand corner of the discussion board.
  2. Click “Facebook”.
  3. A pop-up window will appear and ask for your email or phone number and password associated with your Facebook account. Type in the information.
  4. Click the blue “Log In”.
  5. The next window will ask your permission for Disqus to receive your public profile, friend list, and email address. If you agree, click “Continue as [your name].”
  6. The next window is to sign up for Disqus using your Facebook account. The window will show your Facebook profile picture, your name on Facebook, your email address associated with your Facebook account, and a blank space for the password you would like to use for your Disqus account. Type in the password you would like to use for your Disqus account.
  7. Click “Sign Up”.
  8. An email will be sent to your email address associated with your Facebook account. Open the email and click “Verify [your email address].”
  9. Once clicked, a new web browser window will open up showing the Disqus website and a green banner saying “Email verified!”
  10. Now, you may post on the discussion boards. To post in the discussion board, you may refresh the SIUE blog webpage after email verification. In the discussion board area, you should see your Facebook profile picture, your Facebook name at the right-hand corner (where “Login” used to be) and a dark grey button saying “Post as [your name]” at the bottom right-hand corner of the text box.
  11. To log in using this account in the future, click “Login” then “Facebook.”

Twitter

To create a Disqus account using your Twitter account:

  1. Click “Login” at the right-hand corner at the discussion board.
  2. Click “Twitter”.
  3. A pop-up window will appear and ask your authorization for Disqus to use your Twitter account. If you agree to the terms listed, type in your username/email address and password associated with your Twitter account, then click “Sign In”.
  4. The next window is for signing up for Disqus using your Twitter account. The window will show your Twitter profile picture and your name associated with your Twitter account. Please type in the email address and password you would like to be associated with your new Disqus account, then click “Sign Up.”
  5. An email will be sent to the email address you entered. Open the email and click “Verify [your email address].”
  6. A web browser window will open showing the Disqus website and a green banner saying “Email verified!”
  7. Now, you may post on the discussion boards. To post in the discussion board, you may refresh the SIUE blog webpage after email verification. Google

To create a Disqus account using your Gmail/Google account:

  1. Click “Login” at the right-hand corner of the discussion board.
  2. Click “Google.”
  3. A pop-up window will appear and ask for the name you would like to use on the discussion boards, your email address, and password to your email. Fill in the information
  4. Click “Sign Up”.
  5. Disqus will send you a confirmation email to the email address you submitted. Click “Verify [your email address]” in the email.
  6. A web browser window will open showing the Disqus website and a green banner saying “Email verified!”
  7. Now, you may post on the discussion boards. To post in the discussion board, you may refresh the SIUE blog webpage after email verification. In the discussion board area, you should see your Google profile picture, your name at the right-hand corner (where “Login” used to be) and a dark grey button saying “Post as [your name]” at the bottom right-hand corner of the text box.
  8. To log in using this account in the future, click “Login” then “Google.”
