Staff

One hundred percent of SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start teaching staff holds a minimum of a bachelor’s in early childhood education or a related field. All Head Start/Early Head Start staff is highly qualified and is eligible to receive tuition assistance after completion of the probationary period. Professional development opportunities include: local, state, national conferences, workshops and individualized on site Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) coaching.

CLASS is a nationally recognized assessment tool, designed to measure the effectiveness of child-teacher interactions and to promote continued professional development for teaching staff. There are three broad CLASS domains and scores ranging from 0-7; the score of seven is considered as highly effective. Below are the average CLASS scores for SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start staff for Fall 2013:

Emotional Support Domain: 5.7 *4.0
Classroom Organization Domain: 5.1 *3.0
Instructional Support Domain: 3.9 *2.0
