Program Resources

Upward Bound (BEM) is a federally funded program in conjunction with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. There is no cost to participants.

Upward Bound (BEM) Hours
Upward Bound (BEM) Program hours of operation during the academic year are:
Monday through Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
2nd and 4th Saturday of each month 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Participants are required to attend a minimum of one Saturday session per month and two days per week, for a total of not less than twenty hours per month of participation in scheduled program activities. Total contact hours for the academic year will be a minimum of 180 hours per participant.

Services

Participants in the Upward Bound (BEM) Program have a wide range of services from which choose. They are:

• Instruction in Language Arts, mathematics, science and foreign languages
• Computer and Science laboratory instruction
• Personal counseling
• Academic advisement and assistance
• Tutorial services
• Participation in cultural events and special academic programs
• Activities designed to explore a wide range of career opportunities
• Special instruction to prepare participants for mathematics, science and health related careers
• A six week non-residential summer program offering academic workshops and activities
• Free-lunch program
• Free transportation to and from all classes and activities
• Stipends and awards
