SIUE Engineering Alumnus Named VP of Global Supply Company

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering alumnus Scott Miller, PE, has been named vice president, engineering of MiTek, a global supplier of software, engineered products, services and equipment.

Miller earned a bachelor’s in civil engineering from SIUE in 1996.

His accomplished history with MiTek is detailed in a release titled “Scott Miller Promoted to Vice President of Engineering” that can be found on the company’s website.

Online Offerings Spark SIUE Summer Enrollment to Seven Year High

Denise-CobbSouthern Illinois University Edwardsville reached its highest summer headcount since 2009 during the 2016 summer term. Led by a sharp increase in online enrollment, SIUE served 6,335 students, which represented an increase of 175 students (2.8 percent) over summer 2015 and 541 more students than summer 2014.

SIUE Among National Leaders in Students Graduating with Low Debt

pembrook-randySouthern Illinois University Edwardsville ranks 116th out of 1,300 colleges nationally for the lowest student loan debt per borrower according to LendEDU. Among public institutions, SIUE ranks 54th nationally. Among all Illinois institutions, SIUE is second.

The survey demonstrates that undergraduate SIUE students, who choose to borrow, carry a very low amount of student debt ($20,817 average) at graduation. More than 42 percent of SIUE students graduate with zero student debt.

Progressive Mindset is Karacal’s Philosophy as School of Engineering Dean

Cem Karacal, PhD, dean of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Engineering, did not become dean to be a status quo person. Instead, he intends to move the School forward with a progressive mindset and creative thinking that will prepare students for the emerging trends of the engineering industry.

SIUE Mourns Loss of Engineering Student Cole Rosenberger

Cole Rosenberger, of Defiance, Mo., died Tuesday, July 26. He was 19.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Rosenberger was a sophomore in the School of Engineering. He was also a member of the Sigma Rho Chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity at SIUE. The fraternity has established a Go Fund Me account to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Monsanto Fund Grant Sparks Learning at SIUE Engineering Camps

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is among the top four public universities in the state according to Forbes magazine’s top colleges ranking.

Dunn Names Alum Randy Pembrook as SIUE Chancellor

Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn has named Randall G. Pembrook, PhD, as the ninth chancellor in Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s history. The selection is pending formal SIU Board of Trustees approval, and Pembrook will officially assume his duties in early August. SIUE Student Receives Accolades for Research on Distracted Driving
