The 2006 Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson Scholarship has been awarded to Mr. Todd Kocher, a senior Mechanical Engineering student. The Anderson Scholarship was established in 2004 by the generous donation of the late Professor Thomas P. Anderson's family for Mechanical Engineering at SIUE. This is the second year an Anderson Scholarship has been given out. The scholarship is to honor an outstanding junior or senior Mechanical Engineering student. The scholarship is under the supervision of SIUE Mechanical Engineering faculty. Currently the scholarship pays tuition of one semester. If the tuition is already paid by other scholarships, the Anderson Scholarship will pay $1,500 cash.
Faculty picked Todd to receive the award based on his outstanding academic performance. He received an A in every class taken so far in SIUE except one. He was the winner of the 2005 Russell C. Solomon Award, and was inducted to the Pi Tau Sigma honor society in 2006. Todd is a student member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and currently serves as the secretary of the SIUE chapter of Pi Tau Sigma. He is expected to graduate from SIUE Mechanical Engineering Program in May 2007.
Todd is the youngest son of Linus and Rita Kocher of Olney, IL. He and his two siblings will be the family's first generation of college graduates of the family. Up to now, he mainly used student's loan to support his college education.
