The 2005 Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson Scholarship has been awarded to Mr. Scott R. Przybysz, a senior Mechanical Engineering student. The Anderson Scholarship was established in 2004 by the generous donation of the late Professor Thomas P. Anderson's family for Mechanical Engineering at SIUE. This is the first year an Anderson Scholarship has been given out. The scholarship is to honor an outstanding junior or senior Mechanical Engineering student. The scholarship is under the supervision of SIUE Mechanical Engineering faculty. Currently the scholarship pays tuition of one semester. If the tuition is already paid by other scholarships, the Anderson Scholarship will pay $1,500 cash.
Faculty picked Scott to receive the award based on his outstanding academic performance. He received an A in every class he has taken at SIUE. He was inducted as a member of the Pi Tau Sigma honor society in December of 2004 and was on the Dean's List. In addition to school work, Scott is a member of the Formula SIUE race team working on the Controls Team. He expects to graduate in May 2006.
Scott is a non-traditional student. After spending 5 years in the United States Marine Corps working with electronics, Scott decided to come back home and go to school. He was first enrolled part time in the Process Operations Technology Certificate program at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) and completed the program in June 2001. He was then enrolled full time at SWIC to receive an Associate in Science and graduated with High Honors in July of 2003. While attending SWIC, he became a member of Phi Theta Kappa an international honor society. In addition to the Vice President's Honors List awards, Scott was chosen for the Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics Award in 2002 and 2003.
Scott is married. He and his wife Candice are expecting their first child.
