Thomas P. Anderson, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, passed away on February 8, 2004 at the age of 69. Professor Anderson was the founder of Mechanical Engineering Program in SIUE, and served as the Department Chair from 1994 to 1998. He held numerous prominent positions in his life time. Among others, he served as the Acting Director of Industrial Program in National Science Foundation, Associate Deputy Director of the Interdepartment Energy Study in the Office of Science and Technology in the executive office of the President, Dean of School of Science and Technology in SIUE, Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Iowa. He was the winner of the 1997 ASME Edward F. Obert Award for his paper "Equilibrium Dynamics: An Unconventional View of Some Fundamental Physical Phenomena." Memorial was made to the Department of Mechanical Engineering in SIUE to establish the Thomas and Elizabeth Anderson Scholarship.
